I inspected Bella Vita at Gibson Island, MD. I liked the layout, condition and equipment and agreed to a price pending a satisfactory survey and sea trial.

I signed a contract to purchase her with the contingencies above. Arrangements were made with a surveyor to perform the survey on July 18, 2005.

The owner, the surveyor and I met at the boatyard on Gibson Island to do the survey and sea trial. An ultrasound of the hull showed uniform steel thickness with no detectable problems. The yacht was then launched and the remainder of the survey done afloat. Some problems were found that would need to be corrected before leaving but the only significant problem found was with the engine. It is the original engine and while it appears to have been well maintained, it is close to the end of its useful life. I decided that even if I needed to repower, compared to the other steel boats I looked at, this was still a reasonable purchase. I decided to proceed.

The owners and I met at Wagner-Stevens to complete the deal and I had purchased a yacht!
