These pictures are of the Hermitage. This was the home that Father Jerome designed and built for himself. It is on top of the highest hill near New Bight and has a view of the Atlantic Ocean to the east and Exuma Sound to the west. It is maintained today, not sure by whom, and is open to the public. There is now a paved road up to the base of the hill it is located on. I'm pretty sure that when he built it, he had to walk from town on a path through the scrub. The path up divides into two shortly past the gate. The gate seems a little redundant since there is no fence but it does set the stage nicely for the rest. There is and Easy Way and a Hard Way. It doesn't look like the Easy way is used too much. Along the Hard Way, part of which is really steep and narrow, he carved the twelve stations of the Crucifix. I was taking pictures but somehow I missed #6 and my batteries died after #7. I will try to get some pictures from the camcorder and add them.
