Still here in Gr. Lameshur Bay getting ready for the trip north. I'm heading north early this year and hope to be back at the boatyard by at least May 10. My adopted mother, Pearle Berlin, is turning 90 in mid April and there is a party for her in NW PA that I want to go to. I plan on leaving the boat at the boatyard and renting a car for the trip to PA.
I spent last week in St Thomas with my daughter Christy, my grandson Chris and my sister Sarah. Didn't do a whole lot but it was nice to see some family for a while.
I've finished up my work here at VIERS.
It has been busy lately.
The tables I built for the lab, two years ago, got Formica on the tops this year.
There were eight tables and I used eight full sheets of Formica to cover them all.
It took a while but it's done and they look pretty good.
They were painted and the Formica will be much easier to keep clean.
Also, the researchers said they were getting paint particles in their sediment samples.
The kitchen has a new poured concrete floor and the old wooden floor under it did not collapse during the pour. The next step is to raise the roof about five four feet and pour concrete columns to support the roof. I think the plan is to do that in May. Then new plates will be built to support the roof and the roof lowered in to place. The sides will be mostly open, except for the columns, and will probably be screened sometime. It sure will be nice to have a real kitchen again.
I am about done repairing and restitching the head sail. It got drug into the water on the way down and ripped some of the clew reinforcing material. I have that repaired and decided to restitch all the rest of the sail. Only two seams to go! I was planning on leaving today but the sail took longer than I expected so I will probably leave tommorrow. I'll be out of touch for two to three weeks but can be tracked through the Spot Locater web site at the url on the "Current Location" page.
