April 20, 2008

I got my taxes done finally so I guess it's time to update the web site. I seems that when I'm only working a few hours a day I should be able to keep it updated a little better. Somehow laying around on the boat reading with a cold drink seems a little easier to handle than sitting at the computer.

My daughter Christy, my grandson Chris and my sister Sarah were all her for a week. Sarah was staying at the Emerald Beach Resort on Lindberg Bay so I went over to St. Thomas for the week. I anchored in Lindberg Bay and Christy and Chris stayed on the boat. We spent most of the week laying around and enjoying the great weather and the beautiful beach. We did rent a car for a couple of days and toured St Thomas and St John. They wanted to see VIERS so we took the ferry to St John and drove out here to say hello. It was a cloudy day so the views weren't as impressive as normal but it was still pretty. Normally you can see the BVI very clearly from Drake's Seat, the picture on the left. The bay is Megan's Bay on the north side of St Thomas and is generally considered on of the best beaches in the world. The picture on the right is of Coral Bay on the east end of St John. Again, normally you can see the Bight on Norman Island very well but not today.

Last weekend, Rodney and Paula Ferguson, previous owners of Bella Vita, came over to St John to say hello and see Bella Vita. They owned her two owners ago and had done a circumnavigation in her. After selling her in St Croix, they went back to Texas and built a new boat, Jean. That is her in the picture with Bella Vita. Jean is a wood strip hull with fiberglas on the inside and outside. She is 42 feet long with a 41 foot waterline and looks quite fast. Quite a change between the two boats. They also have a Portaboat for a dinghy, the third one I've seen since I've been cruising. We had a nice chat before they had to leave to head back to their home port in St Thomas.

Not much else has been happening here. I'm still working and loafing as before with some snorkling and hiking now and then. I did get an underwater case for my digital camera and have taken a few snorkles with it. I have a page of underwater pictures now. Click on the picture to the left to go there.
